An Alcohol Interventionist Can Help

One Size Does Not Fit All
There are many kinds of intervention therapists and related specialists: alcohol, drugs, gambling, eating disorders, etc. In all cases the main goal is to get the addicted person to admit to their addiction and seek immediate help. Alcohol Interventionists work specifically with individuals addicted to alcohol. True to their title they are specifically trained in the areas of alcohol dependence, its manifestation, its affects, the excuses, the treatment plans available and family healing plans.
Despite the structural similarities found across the intervention spectrum when you are dealing with an alcoholic, a professional interventionist is worth seeking out. They can provide insights and experience that others may not. Not all alcoholics are the same but also in the type of drinking they engage in. Binge drinkers and daily drinkers engage in very different behaviors and it is helpful to have an expert outline a plan of action that addresses the particular type.
Are They On' or Are They Off'
A binge drinker can be quite mysterious. Their addiction may go unnoticed for quite some time. They don't usually drink every single day, and after a binge they often promise to quit. The lulls between binges give those around them the impression they have quit, adding to the confusion about whether or not to seek help. Off alcohol they can seem very normal until the next binge.
Binge drinkers try hard to convince themselves and others they are not alcoholics. They are just having fun once in a while; they are having a rough day or deserve to kick back. Unfortunately once the first drink hits them they cannot control their intake, and the consequences of their behaviors can be tragic.
A Day at a Time
The daily drinker does just that: drinks every day. Early on they may have a drink after work or watch TV at night over a six-pack. However their body begins to crave more and soon they will turn to the comfort of alcohol to deal with stress, help them sleep or even control the shakes they may begin to experience as they grow more dependent.
The next drink is always on the horizon. The thought of it may consume them affecting concentration, motivation, and relational interactions. As their body becomes more dependent the expertise of an Alcohol Interventionist becomes more crucial as rehabilitation options must consider the medical supervision necessary to help the daily drinker recover without further endangering their health.
Timing is Everything
It is not hard to see how important timing is when considering the type of alcoholic needing help. Right after a binge when the memories are still fresh is the best time to step in with a binge drinker. It is a challenge to convince a binger who has been okay for a while that they need help. In the immediate aftermath of a binge however, they are more likely to see their destructive behaviors for what they are.
Lots of Moving Parts
Indeed there are lots of things to think about when it comes to planning an intervention. Initially the interventionist will interview all of those who will participate in the intervention. This may include family members, friends, colleagues and clergy. They will assess the nature of the alcoholic's drinking pattern and research programs that address the alcoholics need and the family dynamic as well. After all the preparation work is done and rehabilitation is arranged, the interventionist actually mediates the entire meeting. They will be your whole family's advocate for healing.
When faced with the unthinkable questions of how to handle life with an alcoholic, reach out to an alcohol interventionist. They can be the compassionate experienced guide you need during this very confusing time.
